   "Ventilator" Mediapoetry Festival will be held on Dec. 19, 2009
  in St. Petersburg, at the Sergey Kuryokhin Modern Art Center

Festival programme:

The programme is being formed by the organizers of the festival and includes:


VideoPoetry

This section of the festival will feature works, which include audio, drawn or written poems combined with visual presentations.


Retrospective show The retrospective show programme includes a selection of animation, video art, and other works that can rightly be considered the forerunners of videopoetry.

The main show The programme consists of works submitted by various authors. The number of works submitted by each author is not limited, however, we will not accept individual works that exceed 40 minutes. For the main show of the festival, we will form a presentation for each author, which will also not exceed 40 minutes.

Competition The programme consists of works submitted by authors and nominated for the competition. Authors may submit 1 or 2 works for competition, no more than 10 minutes each. On December 19, during the competition, a jury will select the winners in their respective categories and reward them with prizes.


SoundPoetry(broadcast of sound poetry)

This section of the festival will feature sound poetry works - poetic melo-declamations, noise-declamations and audio performances. However, this section will not include traditional readings of poetry or songs. Authors (or creative associations) may submit an unlimited number of sound poetry works/tracks in any format for non-stop radio broadcast in the festival space. Sound works must be no more than 10 min. each in length


VisualPoetry (exhibition of visual poetry)

At the festival, there will be an exhibition which will showcase all kinds poetry in the form of drawings, photos, craft poetry, poetic collages and other undiscovered visual poetry. The variety of permissible forms of visual poetry is limited only by the imagination of the authors and the size of the room. We will accept an unlimited number of works from each author (or creative association), in the original, or electronic form. Acceptable formats: jpeg, tiff, raw, bmp, ai, cdr. If poetry is not visualized on paper (for example: craft poetry, body art, edible poetry, etc.), the authors should provide the concept and photography works. We will accept original visual poetry on an individual basis by prior arrangement with the organizers of the festival. The cost of printing works submitted in electronic form will be paid by the festival.


PerformancePoetry (live performances)

The festival will include live shows, performances and actions of poets using different media forms. However Performance Poetry statements will not include the traditional recitation of verses from a scene. Participants must provide the concept, the procedure and specify the duration of the speech. It is recommended that artists provide a video presentation of the planned live performance.


Theory and Practice (master classes, seminars, discussions)

In this section of the festival will be the exchange of experience, invaluable for improving the establishment of various poetic forms. For example, master classes on shooting video in extreme and travel conditions, seminars on video and audio installation, video and sound recording, interactive lectures on the theory and practice of sound, sight and word-formation (with the participation of physicists, psychologists, linguists, and so on), discussions on possible ways of combining different media forms etc. The list of activities in this section will be formed by the organizers as requests are received. To conduct master classes, seminars, lectures and discussions to provide the concept, authors should describe the event and specify its duration.


Self-publishing Kiosk (counter poetic self-publishing)

At the festival will be a sales exhibition and sale of self-published art relevant to printing, drawing, sound and video poetry. Invited free publishers will present their homemade books, posters, collages, cards, disks, and other poetic handicrafts. The number of presented works is not limited. A sales exhibition will be formed on the spot in a special festival space. To participate in the exhibition and sale of self-published work, give a brief description of the proposed self-publications.


Poetry Media Mix(live acoustic poetic verses performance, implicated in a musical jam and accompanied by poetry-VJ)

The final part of the festival will be a live improvisational poetic media mix, which will consist of a live poetry reading accompanied by music and noise jam, and VJ on the festival grounds, as well as other unknown video poetry. Applications for participation in the poetry media mix will be accepted from musicians, poets, dancers, actors and VJ artists.


 Submitting material:

Authors may submit their work by filling out the registration form and uploading them to the festival site, in the “Participate?” section, or with any file exchange program. You can also submit work via e-mail: mediapoetry@gmail.com, or by mail: 190000, Saint-Petersburg, PO Box 408, Zhigunova Ilya Vladimirovich. The cost of sending the work is the responsibility of the author. The materials sent will be kept in the archives of the festival except for special arrangements.


 Deadline for submission - November 22, 2009 


Information about selected works and their authors will be added to the festival's website, under Programme and Participants as applications are reviewed. The final programme of the festival will be posted on the site after November 22, 2009.


Participation:

Authors of selected papers will be invited to participate in the festival free of charge. The festival does not pay travel expenses, room or board. Nevertheless, the organizers are taking applications from sponsors for the collective renting of an apartment or possible hosting arrangements. Also invited to participate in the festival are spectators and volunteers. See the information section on Participate?.

In addition, according to results of festival questionnaires, crowd favorites will be awarded the audience award in various sections of the festival and in various categories of media poetry.


Presentation materials:

At the festival, a full-color booklet with information about the participants and a DVD-ROM with the video works selected for competition will be distributed. Authors whose works will be featured in the competition will receive a booklet with the DVD-ROM for free. Full details of all participants will be posted on the festival website. After the festival a movie about the festival will be released on DVD-ROM. In addition, we will publish a collection of articles devoted to theoretical issues of media poetry, as well as the practical experience of the Ventilator festival.


Using materials of the festival:

By submitting works to our festival, you agree that your work may be presented in any activities of the festival, as well as included the festival DVD-ROM and on the festival website mediapoetry.org.


We understand that the authors may have different views on the further distribution of their works (Internet, television broadcasting, media coverage, etc.), and may be supporters of the Unbribable Creativity Manifesto and/or supporters of the restrictions on the free distribution of its creations. For our part, we pledge with respect to meet any author's position, and pledge not to distribute the works of authors outside the festival, without their express agreement.
